Sophomore Christina Miyabe scored a game-high three goals in a 12-5 win over Cal State Bakersfield, while four other Aggies each tallied two in a 15-1 victory over Sonoma State earlier in the day, as 15th-ranked UC Davis swep the first day of its own Aggie Shootout women's water polo tournament at Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday.
The Aggies even their record at 9-9.
In Saturday's neutral-site action, Becky Seelos shot a perfect 5-for-5 to propel the Roadrunners to a 13-2 win over the Seawolves.
Miyabe converted an early 6-on-5 chance the hit an even strength goal in the opening quarter of the Aggies' nightcap win over CSUB. UC Davis held a 5-3 halftime lead, then extended the edge to four goals midway through the third on the first of Miller's two goals in the game.
Miller, freshman Jessica Dunn and senior Dana Nelsen each tallied two goals in support of Miyabe's hat trick versus the 'Runners.
In UC Davis' previous action Saturday, Miller and freshmen Alex Rawlinson, Kathryn Bailey and Carly Ternasky each had two goals to lift the Aggies to the 15-1 win over SSU. The Seawolves drew first blood with a Kelsey Lowy goal just a minute into the contest, but did not find the back of the net in 17 subsequent attempts -- including six 6-on-5 opportunities.
Three different Aggie goalies guarded the net against the Seawolves. Senior Casey Hines had three stops in the first half, then Cara Schoeman and Riane Woods recorded two and three saves, respectively, in the third and fourth quarters.
UC Davis completes its action in the Aggie Shootout on Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest against No. 2 Stanford. The Cardinal also will face the Roadrunners in a neutral-site game at 11 a.m.
