DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis team won its sixth straight match and remained perfect at home after a 7-0 victory over Montana Wednesday afternoon at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The teams played singles first, and the Aggies won all six matches in straight sets. The win improves UC Davis to 8-7 overall. Montana dropped to 6-10.
Just hours after being named the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, Desiree Stone won her fifth straight singles match with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Rebecca Bran at No. 1. Dahra Zamudio upped her streak to six by defeating Heather Davidson at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Herzyl Legaspi was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 3 against Kayla Moyse.
Freshmen Lauren Curry and Ellie Edles have now won six straight matches with victories Wednesday at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Curry posted a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win against Amanda Bran while Edles was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Lauren Gibson. Sidney Brady rounded out singles success with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Cara Lehman at No. 6.
In doubles, Legaspi and Stone cruised past Rebecca Bran and Davidson at No. 1 by an 8-2 margin. Edles and Zamudio were also victorious after defeating Amanda Bran and Gibson, 8-4. The lone Grizzly win came at No. 3 doubles.
UC Davis has now posted five straight shutouts and has outscored its opponents 40-1 during its six-match winning streak. The Aggies are also 7-0 at home this year.
UC Davis is next in action Friday when it hosts Portland at 2 p.m.
