LA JOLLA, Calif. - Freshman Jessica Dunn scored three goals while three other Aggies each added two to lead No. 15 UC Davis to a 14-3 win over No. 18 Cal State Bakersfield in the seventh-place game of the Triton Invitational women's water polo tournament at UC San Diego's Canyonview Aquatic Center Sunday afternoon. The Aggies fell to No. 14 UC Santa Barbara by a 7-4 final in the tournament's morning action.
UC Davis is now 3-5 for the season.
Dunn scored completed her hat trick in the first quarter against the Roadrunners, helping the Aggies take a 6-1 lead at the halftime. Senior Dana Nelsen added a goal in the first possession after the break to boost UC Davis' lead to six before CSUB's Becky Seelos and Kaitlin Torres cut the margin to 7-3. However, sophomores Christina Miyabe and Kaylee Miller and junior Rachelle Smith erupted for a three-goal run during the next two minutes to help the Aggies finish the contest with seven unanswered goals.
Miller, sophomore Ariel Feeney and redshirt freshman Katie Schlueter each scored two in the win over Bakersfield.
In Sunday's morning action, Gaucho freshman Sienna van Alphen tallied three goals to help her team ride a 5-1 start to a 7-4 win over UC Davis. Miller scored two goals for the Aggies, while Feeney and Dunn each tallied one.
UC Davis returns to action at the Sonoma State Invitational on February 20-21, taking on Cal Lutheran, the host Seawolves, Cal State East Bay and No. 5 UCLA.
