AUSTIN - Heidi Kucera and Liliana Alvarez each earned two NCAA "B" Consideration Standard time and placed sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke Friday on the second day of the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame Invitational held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
UC Davis is currently sixth out of 14 teams with 143 points. Texas is in first place and is followed by Arizona in second and Wisconsin in third.
Alvarez clocked in with the seventh-fastest 100 breast prelim time after recording an NCAA "B" time of 1:01.42 while Kucera was eighth in the event preliminaries with a time of 1:02.02, also an NCAA "B" time. In the evening finals, Kucera finished sixth overall with a season and team-best time of 1:01.24, which also stood as an NCAA "B" time. Alvarez placed eighth in the finals with her second NCAA "B" time of the day, touching the wall in a time of 1:01.56.
Linda Hermann and Morgan Lee finished in the top 20 of their respective events, with Hermann taking a 19th place finish in the 100 back while Lee was 18th in the 100 breast. Hermann advanced to the finals of the 100 back by virtue of a lifetime best time of 56.46 in the event prelims, then recorded a time of 56.87 for her 19th place finish. Lee's time of 1:04.32 in the 100 breast was a season best.
Hermann also finished 23rd overall in the 200 freestyle after recording a time of 1:50.76. Her prelim time of 1:50.68 was a season best.
UC Davis also earned second swims in the 400 individual medley as Jenah Dawson and Grace Benefield finished 20th and 21st, respectively. Dawson turned in a final time of 4:31.37 and Benefield's time of 4:34.01 was a lifetime best.
Julie Peri earned a season best time in the prelims of the 100 breast after clocking in at 1:04.81, then finished 21st overall in the event finals with a time of 1:05.55. Samantha Capozzo swam a lifetime best time of 1:00.86 in the 100 back to finish 29th overall.
The 200 medley relay team of Hermann, Alvarez, Foley and Kucera finished eighth overall in a season best time of 1:44.28.
UC Davis concludes action at the Texas Invite on Saturday, competing in the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1650 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay.
