JUNCTION CITY, Ore. - UC Davis sliced 18 strokes off its first-round score with a strong afternoon showing as the Aggie women's golf team moved into fifth place after the first day of the Oregon Duck Invitational behind Alice Kim and Chelsea Stelzmiller who are each tied for sixth.
The Aggies, who shot a 320 team score in the morning's round and were tied for sixth with Illinois, had a 302 over the second 18 holes which was tied for the second-lowest score of the afternoon. UC Davis is at 46-over 622, six shots behind fourth-place Missouri but 13 in front of sixth-place Wisconsin.
The University of San Francisco blitzed the field with a 3-over 291 in the first round before coming back with a 301 in the second; both scores low for each of the rounds. The Dons are at 16-over 592 and lead host Oregon by 12 shots. Oregon State is in third at 610, 18 shots off the pace. Twelve teams are competing in the 54-hole event.
Chilly temperatures in the 40's and wind persisted throughout the day.
Kim and Stelzmiller paced UC Davis on the first day with Kim firing a 1-under 71 in the second round after opening the day with an 80. Her 71was tied for the low round of the day, joining Natasha Podmore who had one in the morning's play and Julia Potter of Missouri who carded the same in the afternoon.
Stelzmiller opened her day with a 77 before firing an impressive 74 in the second. Both Aggies sit in sixth position at 7-over 151, tied with three other players. Podmore, who complemented her opening-round 71 with a 72 in the second, is at 1-under 143, the only player in the field in the red. She has a four-shot lead.

Katie Sisler is tied for 24th in the 69-player field at 158, highlighting her day with a 77 in the afternoon,
Jessica Yam had an 80 in the second round and is tied for 46th at 164, and
Brittany Smith is tied for 51st at 166.
Kimberly Johnson, playing as an individual, is tied for 33rd at 160 after carding a 79 in the second round.
The tournament, which concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday, is being contested at the 5,954-yard Shadow Hills Country Club.
UC Davis is also being represented with three individuals at the 36-hole Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove.
Lauren Dobashi highlighted her Monday with a 36 on the back nine on her way to a 76 and is tied for third,
Eryn Williams posted a 38 over her final nine while posting an 81, and
Kelsey Fischer had matching 41's on both sides, carding an 82. Williams is tied for 14th heading into the final round while Fischer is tied for 18th.
The tournament, in which Santa Clara holds the team lead by one shot, finishes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
