Men Stay Undefeated with Win Over Fresno Pacific

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's swimming and diving teams won seven individual events and both diving events to take a 167-125 victory over Fresno Pacific Friday afternoon at Schaal Aquatics Center. With the win, the men's team remeains undefeated in dual meet action with a 4-0 overall record.

The Aggies started the day with a win in the 200 yard medley relay as the "A" squad of Jimmy Fong, Scott Weltz, Daniel Donnelly and Russ Underwood turned in a time of 1:33.97.

Reid Hartz gave the Aggies their first individual win of the day with a first-place finish in the 1000 free. He clocked in at 9:47.70 and was followed by Alex Rossbach who placed second with a time of 9:59.78.

Adam Borchard won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.88 and Weltz then went on to win the next event - the 100 backstroke - with a season-best time of 50.79.

Fresno Pacific picked up their first individual win of the day in the 100 breaststroke as Bart Kelly clocked in at 58.65 to place first. He was followed by UC Davis' Kyle Anderson who was second in a time of 1:00.43.

UC Davis swept the top three spots in the 200 butterfly with Ed Morrison, Adam Yen and Jeremy Smith placing first, second and third, respectively in the event. Morrison had a season-best time of 1:58.29 while Yen and Smith clocked in at 1:58.97 and 1:59.99.

Fresno Pacific's Carl Weigley picked up back-to-back victories with wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle. In both events, Weigly outtouched UC Davis' Underwood en route to a first place finish. Weigley's time in the 100 free was a mere one-hundredth of a second faster than Underwood's with Weigley clocking in at 47.28 to Underwood's 47.29.

Alex Daneke came in first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.71, a season-best. Keegan Groot then went on to win the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.26. UC Davis also won in the 500 freestyle with Matt Herman clocking in at 4:46.79. Hartz, Rossbach and Smith followed.

Weigley won his third individual event for the Sunbirds with a victory in the 100 butterfly (53.36). Erik Thiessen clocked in at 1:59.84 to win the 200 individual medley.

The Sunbirds were victorious in the final event of the day, the men's 400 freestyle relay, with a time of 3:15.04.

UC Davis swept the diving competition. Paul Navo won the 1-meter diving with a score of 273.30 while Jason Andrade recorded a score of 291.10 on the high board to win that event.

The Aggie men will next compete at the Texas Invitational Dec. 3-5 in Austin, Texas.
