MORAGA, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis team had several players advance on the first day of the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational Friday in Moraga. The Aggies collected eight wins on the singles side. Lauren Curry, Noelle Eades, Eleanor Edles and Shawdee Rouhafza all moved on to the quarterfinals of their respective draws while three other Aggies collected singles wins.

In the Red Singles, Dahra Zamudio and Desiree Stone both won their opening round matches. Zamudio defeated Alisa Spitzer of Saint Mary's, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Stone used straight sets to get past Washington's Lina Xu, 6-3, 7-5. Both Aggies were defeated in their bids to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.

In the White Singles draw, Herzyl Legaspi and Ellie Edles both won in the initial round of 32. Legaspi was a three-set winner over Santa Clara's Maggie McGeorge while Edles defeated Gonzaga's Clare Dodge, 6-2, 6-1. Edles kept pace in the next round with a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 win against Molly Aloia of Saint Mary's.

All three Aggies in the Blue Singles won in the round of 16 to advance to quarterfinal action on Saturday. Curry prevailed over Washington's Ashley Anderson with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Eades posted a 7-5, 6-3 over Cal's Catie Visico, and Rouhafza defeated Valerie Cormier of San Jose State, 6-0, 6-0.

Sidney Brady and Curry teamed for the Aggies' lone doubles win when they defeated Santa Clara's Mary Chamaki and Isabelle Hoy (SCU), 8-4, in a Blue round robin match.

The three day tournament continues Saturday before concluding with Sunday's finals.
