DAVIS, Calif. -- Senior attacker Katie McMahon was the lone UC Davis representative on the 2008 All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Lacrosse Team, it was announced by conference executive director Al Beaird on Thursday. Additionally, Denver's Kelly O'Connell was named MPSF Player of the Year while Cal head coach Theresa Sherry was selected as MPSF Coach of the Year.
McMahon, a native of Pleasanton, Calif., led the conference with 61 goals and 80 total points in 18 games this season. She also led the Aggies in assists (19) and caused turnovers (32), while finishing among team leaders in ground balls (41) and draw controls (31). This is her second career All-MPSF award, as she made the team as a junior in 2006.
A triple Division II All-American as a freshman in 2004, McMahon holds numerous school records in her UC Davis career. Most notably, she set single-season marks of 69 goals and 83 total points in 2005, while taking over the career scoring record after just two seasons. Including her 2008 numbers, McMahon completes her Aggie career with 252 goals, 69 assists, 321 points, 153 ground balls, 131 caused turnovers and 143 draw controls, each of which ranks either first or second in program history.
The MPSF office also announced a three-way chop for the conference's Newcomer of the Year award. Denver's Tulley Stapp, Stanford's Karen Nesbitt and Oregon's Alex Breiner were named tri-winners of that honor.
UC Davis finished the year with a 7-11 record, placing fifth at the MPSF tournament, currently running at Cal's Memorial Stadium. This was the Aggies' first season since the university's official reclassification to NCAA Division I membership.
