RENO, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by Nevada, 6-1, Friday afternoon in a non-conference women's tennis match in Reno. The match against the No. 70 Wolf Pack was the regular season finale for the Aggies. Nevada swept doubles before winning five out of six in singles. Kaitlin Callan picked up the lone Aggie win with a straight sets victory at No. 6 singles. UC Davis fell to 11-11 overall, and Nevada improved to 8-10.
In doubles, Nevada's Caroline Bailly and Maria Mizyuk defeated Herzyl Legaspi and Randi Schuler, 8-3, at No. 1. The Nevada duo entered the week ranked No. 38, nationally, in doubles. Ly-Huong Dinh and Alice Hall posted an 8-2 victory over Anita Athavale and Desiree Stone at No. 2, and Florence De Vrye and Lais Ogata were victorious at No. 3 over Robin Guier and Emma Shapiro.
Mizyuk, who is ranked No. 64 in singles, defeated Schuler at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1. Bailly ended Stone's seven-match winning streak with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Hall posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Guier at No. 3 while De Vrye and Ogata also won at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. At No. 6, Callan defeated Audrey Bardot, 7-6, 6-0.
UC Davis is next in action next week at the Big West Championship at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells. The Aggies are the No. 6 seed and will face Cal State Northridge on April 25 in a quarterfinal match.
