DAVIS, Calif. -- Junior Lindsay Kiyama recorded a goal, an assist and four steals as No. 10 UC Davis held No. 19 Santa Clara scoreless for 28 minutes in its 8-3 Western Water Polo Association game at Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday.
The Aggies, who have now won nine straight games, improve to 22-8 for the year. The Broncos fall to 16-10 overall.
Kiyama was the first of eight UC Davis players to score one goal each in the win. Senior Casie Mota had two assists and hit a 6-on-5 goal in the third period, while redshirt freshman Rachelle Smith added a goal and assist. Sophomore Casey Hines had three saves and an assist.
The Aggies scored three in the first and one in the second period to take a 4-0 lead at the halftime break, then sophomore Dana Nelsen opened third-quarter action with a goal that bumped the lead to 7-0.
Santa Clara, which missed on its first 14 shots of the game, finally reached the board with 4:21 remaining in the fourth period as senior Christie Miller hit an even-strength goal to put the score at 7-1. The Broncos added 6-on-5 goals with 2:36 and 0:33 left in the game, bringing the score to its final 8-3 tally.
Senior Laura Uribe had a 6-on-5 goal and an assist for UC Davis. Freshman Dakotah Mohr, senior Madeline Stephenson and freshman Lauren Seidemann also scored to round out the Aggie scoring.
UC Davis concludes the regular season with a home game against Pacific on Friday, April 18. The Aggies will host an alumni exhibition the following day, then head into the WWPA Championship on April 25.
