SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by UC Santa Barbara, 5-2, Friday afternoon in a Big West conference women's tennis match at the Rob Gym Tennis Courts. It was just the third loss for UC Davis since mid-February as the Aggies dropped to 11-8 overall and 3-4 in the Big West. The Gauchos improved to 9-12 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Desiree Stone and Robin Guier each picked up wins for UC Davis.

The Gauchos swept doubles to claim the match's first point. Tova Hausman and Brittany Kausen defeated Guier and Emma Shapiro, 8-2, at No. 3. Charlotte Scatliffe and Marta Simic were 8-3 winners over Herzyl Legaspi and Randi Schuler at No. 1. At No. 2, it was Jill Damion and Asagi Onaga over Anita Athavale and Stone, 8-3.

In singles, Stone stayed red-hot with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 over Damion. The victory was the sixth straight for the sophomore and her 16th overall this year. Guier also won in straight sets as she defeated Onaga, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3. The rest of the matches, however, went to the Gauchos. The only contest that went three sets was at No. 1 as Simic came from behind to defeat Schuler, 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2).

Despite the setback, UC Davis has still won seven of its past 10 matches. It concludes its two-match road trip Saturday at Cal Poly.
