DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis continues to play strong after defeating UC San Diego, 6-1, Saturday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Aggies swept doubles and won five out of six in singles. Randi Schuler and Herzl Legaspi each extended winning streaks in singles as the Aggies won for the sixth time in their last eight matches. The win improves UC Davis to 6-5 on the year.
It was a clean sweep in doubles as Schuler and Robin Guier posted an 8-4 win over Taskeen Bains and Natalie Varnay at No. 1. Legaspi and Desiree Stone defeated Justine Fonte and Dalya Perelman, 8-2, at No. 2. In addition, Andrea Phillips and Emma Shapiro were 8-3 winners at No. 3 against Valerie Tang and Tessa Tran.
In singles, the Aggies won all five of their matches in straight sets. Schuler won for the fourth consecutive time at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Perelman. Legaspi also upped her winning streak to four by defeating Molly Sullens, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 4. Legaspi has now won eight of her past nine matches.
Desiree Stone defeated Fonte, 6-2, 6-3, to account for another Aggie win at No. 3. It was Shapiro at No. 5 posting a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Tran, and Kaitlin Callan won in straight sets at No. 6.
UC Davis closes out its three-match homestand Sunday when it hosts Portland State at 11 a.m. It will be the Aggies' last home match until April 3.
