SEASIDE, Calif. - Senior center Laura Uribe scored three goals while senior defender Jessica Soza added two as UC Davis defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 13-4, in a women's Western Water Polo Association game at the CSUMB Aquatic Center Sunday morning.
The Aggies, ranked eighth in Wednesday's Collegiate Water Polo Top 20, improve to 3-1 for the year. The Otters take their first loss, falling to 2-1.
Uribe scored her hat trick in less than 14 minutes of play, leading 10 UC Davis scorers. Her previous three-goal game came against UC Santa Barbara in March of 2007. Soza's two goals were her first for the 2008 season.
The Aggies also split goalkeeping duties among four players, each of whom recorded one save. Casey Hines guarded the cage for the first quarter, then Diana Pivacek took over in the second, as UC Davis took a 6-3 lead at halftime. Senior Jaclyn Loberg took over goaltending duties in a 3-0 Aggie third quarter, then Cara Schoeman shut the door as her team outscored its hosts, 4-1, in the fourth.
UC Davis returns to action on February 9 for the two-day Triton Invitational at UC San Diego.
