GOLD RIVER, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by No. 67 Cal State Northridge, 4-2, Sunday in a Big West Conference women's tennis match. Due to the weather, the contest was played at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center in Gold River. Singles matches were played first, and the Matadors clinched the win by winning four times. No doubles matches were played. The Matadors are the fifth ranked opponent the Aggies have faced this season.
CSUN picked up victories at No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6. The UC Davis wins came off the racquets of Randi Schuler and Herzyl Legaspi. Schuler defeated Victoria Brymer at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2. Legaspi was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 4 against Canna Furuta.
Three of the other four matches finished in straight sets. The only match to go three sets was at No.2 where Kanykey Koichumanova defeated Robin Guier, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
With the win, Cal State Northridge remained undefeated on the year at 5-0 overall. The Matadors pushed their Big West mark to 4-0. The Aggies dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
UC Davis is next in action Friday against Weber State at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
