LA JOLLA, Calif. - Senior defender Jessica Soza scored two goals to lift eighth-ranked UC Davis to a 6-4 win over 14th-ranked Long Beach State in the fifth-place game of the UC San Diego Triton Invitational women's water polo tournament at the Canyonview Aquatics Center Sunday. The Aggies defeated No. 16 Cal State Northridge, 9-7, in Sunday's earlier game.

Senior hole set Ashley Greenwood scored a goal in the first period then freshman Dakotah Mohr connected in the second to supply the Aggies with a 2-1 edge over the 49ers. Soza then added her first goal of the day to help her team take a 3-1 lead at the halftime break.
Long Beach freshman Lauren Sieprath and senior Dayna Wawryznski each scored in the third period to tie the score at 3-3 at the 3:57 mark, but Soza and junior Lindsay Kiyama tacked on two quick goals in the final minute of the period to send the Aggies back up by two. The two teams traded goals in the fourth to close out the Aggie win.
In Sunday's opener, UC Davis and Cal State Northridge battled to a total of six ties in game that saw 24 total exclusions. The Matadors drew first blood on Kirra Kylander's goal midway in the first period, then grabbed a 2-1 lead to end the first period on Allison Brookes' score. The Aggies did not take the advantage until the final minutes of the first half as Laura Uribe hit her first goal to put her team up by a 4-3 edge. However, sophomore Chelsea Curran answered with the equalizer on the next possession and the two teams went to the break in a 4-4 deadlock.
Mohr and sophomore Ashley Chandler each had goals in the third period to provide UC Davis with a 6-5 lead entering the fourth, but Curran completed her hat trick and tied the game at 6-6 on a 6-on-5 goal in the opening minute of the fourth.
Raycraft converted her own 6-on-5 chance at the 5:28 mark in the final period, giving the Aggies a 7-6 edge. Laura Uribe helped seal the win with her advantage goal two minutes later, extending the margin to two goals. Kylander and Raycraft traded goals in the final minutes as UC Davis protected the lead and advanced to the fifth-place game.
The Aggies return to action on February 17 for games at Stanford and Pacific.
