SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UC Davis men's and women's swimming and diving teams won 14 of the 26 combined events to earn a sweep over UC San Diego in a collegiate dual at the Canyonview Aquatic Center Sunday afternoon. The Aggie men won by a score of 149-92 while the women earned a 135-107 victory.
The Aggie women have now won five straight duals over the Tritons while the men have captured four straight.
Cal State Bakersfield was also at the meet but did not score points against the Aggies.
Sophomore Linda Hermann highlighted the day with two individual victories and a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. She earned wins in the 200 free (1:53.94) and the 500 free (5:05.92) while also swimming the second leg on the winning 200 free relay team (1:37.41).
For the third time this weekend, junior Heidi Kucera was a multiple event winner with top finishes in the 400 individual medley (4:27.02) and 200 breaststroke (2:22.41).
The men opened up with a victory in the 400 medley relay and never gave up the lead the rest of the meet. Junior Russ Underwood, sophomore Jimmy Fong and freshmen Keagan Groot and Anthony Perez won the event in 3:31.93. The Aggies also had the third-place team in the event to earn 13 of the possible 17 points.
UC Davis also boasted sweeps in the 400 IM, 200 free and 200 butterfly. Along with Kucera's winning time, freshman Reid Hartz won the men's 400 IM in 4:10.84. Sophomore Adam Borchard joined Hermann as 200 free winners with his time of 1:43.53. Senior Mary Struempf (2:08.53) and junior Daniel Donnelly (1:53.06) took wins in the 200 fly.
The remaining Aggie event winners on the day were sophomore Tyler Ring in the 1,000 free (10:37.31), sophomore Amanda Holman in the 50 free (24.39), senior Amber Bonds in the 100 free (52.93) and junior Jason Andrade in the 3-meter dive (253.65).
UC Davis will not be in action for the remainder of November. They return during the first week of December in three-day tournaments. The women will travel to Seattle, Wash. for the Husky Invitational while the men head to Austin, Texas for the Texas Invite.
