DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis defeated Notre Dame de Namur, 69-36, Friday in an exhibition at The Pavilion. Joe Harden led the Aggies with a game-high 15 points and 12 rebounds. It was the sophomore's second double-double in as many exhibitions as the Aggies closed out their preseason schedule. Vince Oliver added 12 while Ryan Silva finished with 10. Dan Bergeron and Bennie Murray each led NDNU with eight points.
UC Davis held Notre Dame de Namur to just under 30 percent shooting for the game while forcing the Argonauts into 27 turnovers. UC Davis led 40-21 at the half and held NDNU to just 15 points in the second half.
"I was really pleased with the defense. We challenged them on the defensive end," said UC Davis head coach Gary Stewart. "We felt like we could have played significantly better (against Bethany) on Tuesday than we did. We talked about it, looked at some film and tried to address some things. To the guys credit, they came out an executed beautifully."
UC Davis was active from the start, opening with a 10-3 blitz in the first 2:22 of the game. Dominic Calegari scored all six of his points during the run. After the Argonauts went on a 9-1 run, the Aggies responded with a 15-4 run. Harden scored six of his points during the stretch, including a three-pointer, as UC Davis built a 26-16 lead.
Harden finished the half with 12 points and seven boards while Oliver was also in double figures by the break with 10 first half points. The Aggies led 40-21 after the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, UC Davis held Notre Dame de Namur to just six field goals, including two in the first eight minutes. The Aggies steadily built their 19-point halftime advantage to the 33-point final margin.
Freshman Julian Welch added nine points and four assists while David Carter joined Calegari with six points. Michael Boone posted four points and four rebounds in eight minutes of action.
UC Davis shot 44 percent from the field and 43 percent from beyond the arc. NDNU made just 13 of its 44 field goal attempts and was held to 2-for-12 from beyond the arc.
UC Davis is next in action Nov. 14 when it begins its regular season at Iowa State. The game is the first of three games as part of the World Vision Classic in Ames, Iowa.
