Final Stats
DAVIS, Calif. - Joe Harden scored 15 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to lead UC Davis to an 89-69 victory, Tuesday, in an exhibition game at The Pavilion. Harden led a group of four Aggies who finished with at least 10 points. Mark Payne and Ryan Silva each scored 12 with Payne dishing out eight assists and Silva posting five steals. In addition, Adam Malik finished with 10 points. Bethany's George Golden led all scorers with 21 points.
The Bruins opened with the lead for the majority of the first six minutes of the game as Golden scored six points during the stretch to help put Bethany on top 12-7 at the 15:31 mark. The Aggies then went on an 8-0 run, which featured three steals and resulting layups by Silva to cap off the run.
UC Davis upped its lead to 21-14 at the midway point of the half on a Harden layup. Less than three minutes later, Michael Boone, Payne and Harden each scored in a span of 46 seconds to extend the lead to 32-18 with 6:41 left in he half. Late in the half, Nathan Clark connected on back-to-back three-pointers to give UC Davis a 42-25 lead on its way to a 44-30 halftime cushion.
Harden scored 10 of his team-high 15 points in the first half while Silva tallied nine points in the half.
In the second half, Bethany would get no closer than nine points on two occasions with the last coming at the 11:28 mark. The Aggies' largest lead was 23 when they led 89-66 with seven seconds remaining.
In all, a total of 14 Aggies played with all but two getting in on the scoring. Kyle Brucculeri finished with nine points. Boone and Clark both scored six.
"I thought there were some really good moments out there, and there are obviously some things we need to work on and address and hopefully improve upon," said UC Davis head coach Gary Stewart. "I thought we shared the ball well. We made an attempt to make the extra pass, and the guys did what we asked them to do."
UC Davis shot 52 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc. The Aggie defense held Bethany to just 39 percent from the floor as well as 39 percent from beyond the arc. The Aggies outrebounded the Bruins, 42-38. The two teams combined for 46 turnovers with Bethany committing 26. UC Davis finished with 26 assists.
