Nov. 21, 2008

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore two-meters Aaron Salit scored a game-high three goals to lead third-seeded and 11th-ranked UC Davis to a 6-4 win over sixth-seeded and 20th-ranked Air Force in the quarterfinal round of the Western Water Polo Association men's tournament at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Matt M. Axelrod Pool Friday afternoon.

The Aggies improve to 12-14 overall. They will face the winner of the UC San Diego-CMS game in a semifinal game on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Senior driver Grant Muenter scored two goals, while sophomore Walter Eggert added one for UC Davis. Junior Alex Churnside led the Falcons with two goals. Sophomore utility Bobby Geiger and junior defender Jack Hines each had one for AFA.

UC Davis was held scoreless in the first quarter and trailed, 2-1, at the halftime break. However, the Aggies outscored the Falcons by a 3-0 margin in the third to claim the lead.

The winner of the WWPA Championship earns the conference's automatic qualifier (AQ) to the National Collegiate Championship at Stanford on December 6-7.
