DAVIS, Calif. -- Freshman center Dakotah Mohr scored a total of five goals as UC Davis women's water polo posted a season-opening doubleheader sweep at Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday. The eighth-ranked Aggies posted a 17-7 win over Western Water Polo Association leaguemate Sonoma State in the first game, then captured a 16-1 victory over Fresno Pacific in the second contest.

UC Davis kicks off the year at 2-0.

Mohr was one of four Aggies to score two goals in the opener against SSU. Junior attacker Lindsay Kiyama had two scores in the first quarter, senior Laura Uribe converted a five-meter penalty shot in the first period, then hit a man-up goal in the fourth. Sophomore Ashley Chandler had even-strength goals in the second and fourth.

Against FPU, Mohr and senior Casie Mota each posted three goals to lead all scorers in the contest. Mota earned all three of her goals in the Aggies' 10-goal first quarter, including two within a span of less than 60 seconds. In all, UC Davis scored 13 unanswered goals before Sunbird sophomore Borbala Toth put her team on the board with a long lob early in the third quarter.

The Aggies split goalkeeping chores among four players. Junior Diana Pivacek had two blocks in her first-half action against the Seawolves, then senior Jaclyn Loberg added four in her 16 minutes after the break. Sophomore Casey Hines guarded the cage in the first half versus FPU, collecting three saves. Then redshirt freshman Cara Schoeman picked up three saves in relief during the third and fourth quarters.

Sara Watt led Sonoma State's scoring in Saturday's opener, shooting 2-for-3 with a 6-on-5 goal. The Seawolves and Aggies played to an even 4-4 second half after UC Davis had compiled a 13-3 lead by the intermission. SSU junior goalie Lysa Lombard had five saves in defense of her cage.

UC Davis returns to action on Sunday for a noon game against No. 5 California.
