TEMPE, Ariz. - UC Davis concluded its two-match trip in Arizona with a 6-1 loss to Northern Arizona, Sunday, in women's tennis action in Tempe. The Lumberjacks won two of three doubles matches before taking five of six in singles. UC Davis, which faced No. 19 Arizona State on Saturday, dropped to 0-2.

NAU (1-1), which nearly upset No. 42 Arizona on Saturday, started the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The lone Aggie victory came at No. 2 where Desiree Stone and Anita Athavale defeated Amiee Oki and Stephanie Vallejos, 9-8, including 9-7 in the tiebreaker.

In singles, the Lumberjacks won at No. 2 through No. 6. UC Davis, led by Randi Schuler, won at No. 1, cruising past Vallejos, 6-0, 6-1. Stone and Herzyl Legaspi both went three sets at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Each won the first set before their Lumberjack counterparts rallied to take the next two sets.

"It was nice to see Randi Schuler get her first win at UC Davis, and she did it in dominating fashion," said UC Davis head coach Bill Maze. "She hit the ball incredibly well, and she did so against a very good player."

"They were tough," added Maze of the NAU effort. "They were better than we expected, but we got some good matches in this weekend and are looking forward to Stanford and Santa Clara next week."

UC Davis faces No. 2 Stanford on Jan. 25 before taking on Santa Clara the following day. Both matches are on the road.
