MORAGA, Calif. - Freshman outside hitter Megan York scored a match-high 17 kills with 16 digs to lead Saint Mary's to a 30-26, 30-16, 30-25 sweep over UC Davis in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at McKeon Pavilion in front of 337 Friday evening.

With the loss, the Aggies move to 3-8 for the year. The Gaels improve to 6-4 overall.

Freshman Kayla Varney led UC Davis with eight kills and 15 digs. Freshman middle blocker Julie King and senior middle Kelly Patterson each added six kills, while Patterson led the net with six of her team's 10 total blocks.

Saint Mary's led the entirety of the first two games en route to its sweep. The Aggies closed the gap to as little as 16-15 and 20-19 deficits during Game 1, but York fired three kills down the stretch to help the Gaels maintain their advantage.

Patterson knocked down three kills and had a pair of blocks in the Aggies' first eight points in Game 2. However, UC Davis struggled to minus-.053 hitting in that frame. York had two kills and the tandem of Lauren Jaeckel and Shannon Lowell teamed up on a pair of blocks during a late 9-0 run that pushed SMC up by a 27-12 edge.

The Aggies capitalized on a rash of Gael hitting and service errors to craft a 10-4 lead in Game 3. York's offense helped Saint Mary's settle down to a 14-13 deficit, then back-to-back kills by freshman Kelly Huston provided the Gaels with their first lead of the third set, a 25-24 edge. SMC setter Kapua Kamana'o later served up consecutive aces to pull her team away to a 27-25 lead, then Megan Burton had a kill and ace down the stretch to complete the run of five unanswered points to finish the victory.

UC Davis returns home to compete in its historic Big West Conference opener against Pacific on September 19.
