Juniors Lindsay Kiyama and Madeline Stephenson each scored hat tricks to help UC Davis ride a 8-0 lead into a 14-4 win over Colorado State in a Western Water Polo Association women's game at Schaal Aquatics Center Friday afternoon.

The Aggies, ranked ninth in Wednesday's National Collegiate Top 20, improves to 18-6 for the year. The Rams dip to 10-11 overall.

UC Davis scored four goals in the first quarter while holding CSU to two errant shot attempts. The assault began when junior defender Jessica Soza drew a five-meter exclusion against Ram junior Emily McCullough in the opening minutes of play. Aggie attacker Christi Raycraft converted the penalty shot to ignite her team's run.

Stephenson scored two goals in a 4-0 UC Davis second. She hit an advantage goal on the first possession of the quarter, then added a second strike just 28 seconds later. Reserve utility Nila Ward also scored a 6-on-5 goal with 2:53 remaining to extend the Aggie lead to eight. Freshman driver Shannon Kohl finally broke CSU's scoreless drought, connecting on a cross-cage shot with 1:29 left in the first half.

Senior Katherine O'Rourke scored two goals in the third period as UC Davis extended its lead to 12-1 through 24 minutes of play. Ram senior Laurien White scored on a seven-meter attempt with 3:58 and added a power-play score with 1:52 left, while junior Annie Quinn hit a man-up attempt at the 4:59 mark to account for CSU's three fourth-quarter goals.

The Aggies shot 14-for-30 for the game. Colorado State had 17 total shots, including seven by White.

Friday's game serves as a prelude for the nine-team Aggie Shootout tournament, held at Schaal on Saturday and Sunday. UC Davis plays its first game at 9:15 on Saturday against Sonoma State.
