LONG BEACH, Calif. - Reigning Big West Conference Player of the Week Alexis Crimes had 13 kills and hit .458 to lead Long Beach State to a 30-16, 30-12, 30-23 sweep over UC Davis in a conference women's volleyball match at the Walter Pyramid Friday evening.
The Aggies slip to 3-23 for the year and remain winless at 0-14 in Big West play. The 49ers, among the teams receiving votes in the CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, improve to 19-6 overall and 12-2 in league.
Crimes was one of four players in double-figure kills for Long Beach, which hit .409 as a team. Quincy Verdin had 10 kills and a .333 hitting average, Ashley Lee posted 12 kills and .440 hitting, and Michaela Hasalikova carded respective numbers of 10 and .316.
For UC Davis, only freshman outside hitter Kayla Varney posted double-digit offense with her team-best 11 kills. Freshman middle blocker Julie King had four kills on six swings. Sophomore libero Avreeta Singh led the Aggies with eight digs.
As a team, LBSU hit .400 in the opening game, then out-killed UC Davis by a 23-6 margin for a .588 success rate in its dominating Game 2.
The Aggies return to action on Saturday night for a conference match at Cal State Northridge.
