FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The UC Davis women's swimming team scored 111 points Friday night during the second day of the Husky Invitational at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center to jump up three spots in the overall standings.
Southern California overtook host Washington for the lead with 899 points. The Huskies are now 68 points back. UC Davis jumped from 11th to eighth and sit just 21.5 points behind Hawaii for seventh place.
The Aggies provided another good night in the relay events as they enjoyed top 10 finishes in the 200-yard and 800-yard freestyle relays. The 200 free team of Rebecca Koch, Ashley Cayford, Mary Struempf and Amanda Holman had the best overall Aggie finish with their seventh-place time of 1:47.55.
Tyler Ring, Jill Olson, Heidi Kucera and Linda Hermann combined to finish eighth in the 800 free relay in 7:42.86.
Koch also had the best individual finish for the Aggies as her time of 57.34 in the 100 backstroke placed her 10th. Cayford had a solid showing in the 100 breaststroke with her 12th-place time of 1:04.25.
Michelle Camburn was the top finisher in the 400 individual medley (4:45.99); Struempf was the team's top finisher in the 100 butterfly (58.29); and Linda Hermann rounded out the top UC Davis placers in the 200 free (1:52.56).
Tomorrow is the final day of the team competition. Preliminaries begin at 9:30 a.m. with finals following at 6 p.m. Sunday's competition will feature a long course time trial for those wanting to qualify for the Olympic time trials.
