FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Ashley Cayford, Jill Olson , Melanie Covert and , Amanda Holman scored in the 50-yard freestyle and swam together as UC Davis' top-finishing 200 free relay team; and Linda Hermann tied a school record in the 500 free to lead the Aggies on the first day of the Husky Invitational at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center Thursday night.
Host Washington owns the overall lead with 412 points, just 22 points ahead of Southern California (390). The Aggies scored 58 points and currently sit 11th after the first day of the four-day tournament.
Hermann tied Michelle Jennings' 500 free record with her time of 4:59.82. That record was set in the 2005 season.
Cayford, Olson, Covert and Holman combined to finish seventh in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:35.96. All four returned later that night to score points in the 50 freestyle. Holman was the top UC Davis finisher in that event with her time of 24.14.
UC Davis returns for the second day of the Husky Invite tomorrow, starting with preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. Finals will begin at 6:30 p.m.
