Taylor Leads Aggies On Second Day of Nike Cup

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Senior Russell Taylor scored in three individual events and swam on the Aggies' top-finishing 200-yard medley relay team to lead UC Davis Friday evening during the second day of the Nike Cup at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.

Stanford continues to hold a huge lead on the men's side of the competition as they won six of the seven events. UC Davis is sixth after the second day of the three-day event.

The best finish for UC Davis came in the 800 free relay finale as the team of Evan Kraus, Russ Underwood, Trent Richardson and Nik Kemp finished fourth in 6:57.00.

Taylor was the top Aggie scorer in the 400 individual medley (4:06.34) and the 100 breaststroke (52.47). He also swam the second leg of the Aggies' 200 free relay team that finished seventh in 1:35.05. In addition, he was the second-best UC Davis finisher in the 200 free.

Sophomore Daniel Donnelly was the third swimmer in the 200 medley relay and was also the top Aggie scorer in the 100 butterfly (51.61) and the 100 backstroke (53.08).

Richardson was the top UC Davis scorer in the 200 free with his time of 1:44.32.

The final day of the Nike Cup begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. with prelims, finals start at 6 p.m. It will be the final competition of 2007 for UC Davis as they do not compete against until January.
