MORAGA, Calif. - UC Davis capped off another busy day at the Saint Mary's Invitational in Moraga on Sunday. The highlights of the tournament's final day included an all-Aggie final in Flight 3 singles between Jessica Harris and Shawdee Rouhafza. The duo accounted for three of the Aggies' five victories on the day.
Harris and Rouhafza both advanced to the semifinals of Flight 3 with two victories each on Saturday. On Sunday, Harris defeated Portland's Nicole Fleckerstein, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the final. She was joined by Rouhafza, who was a straight-sets winner over Pacific's Clara Schumacher, 7-6 (3), 6-3.
In the final, Harris defeated Rouhafza, 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles action in the main draw, Andrea Phillips and Emma Shapiro posted a dramatic 9-8 victory over Gonzaga's Kristin MacWilliams and Carrie Schofield in the Flight 2 quarterfinals. The Aggie duo fought off four match points on their way to winning the tiebreaker, 9-7. Portland's Stefanie Doolittle and Jenna Tanzer defeated Phillips and Stone in the semifinals.
Stone was a winner in the Flight 1 consolation bracket. She defeated Santa Clara's Lindsay McBride, 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9).
What was supposed to be a three-day tournament was squeezed into two days after Friday's action was postponed due to rain.
UC Davis is next in action Oct. 19 when it begins play at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships at Stanford.
