Final Stats
Santa Barbara, Calif - Scott Weltz and Russell Taylor won two races each for the men, and Ashley Cayford, Jennifer Ginsberg and Heidi Kucera all enjoyed victories for the women on Saturday afternoon as they paced the Aggies against defending Big West Champions UC Santa Barbara. The preseason favorite to repeat as conference champs, the Gauchos had solid all-around performances en route to a 165.5-96.5 win in the men's dual and a 175-87 victory on the women's side.
Weltz took the top price in the 1,000 free with his season-best time of 9:25.99 and in the and 500 free with his time of 4:55. 37. Weltz also took fourth in the 200 backstroke (1:57.54) to cap off a solid day.
Taylor earned an individual victory in the 200 breaststroke with his season-best time of 2:06.82 while teaming with Matt Crawford, Russell Taylor and Russ Underwood in the 200 medley relay at the start of the day to earn a victory in 1:35.45.
Alex Arbios was right behind Weltz in both the 1,000 free and 500 free with times of 9:33.06. and 4:38.29, respectively.
Kucera continues her impressive rookie campaign as she claimed a victory in the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.83 while also finishing second in the 1,000 free with her season-best time of 10:43.50.
Cayford had a similar day as she finished first in the 100 breast in 1:05.32 while also finishing third in the 200 breast in 2:26.18.
Ginsberg was the only other Aggie to earn a victory as she earned the top prize in the 100 back with a season-best time of 59.38. She also finished second in the 200 back with a time of 2:09.17.
Jill Olson also had a great day for the Ags as she finished second in the both the 500 free (5:12.21) and 200 back (2:09.17) while also placing third in the 200 free (1:54.01).
UC Davis swimming rejoins the diving squad for the first time in over two months next Saturday as they travel to Stockton for a double dual with Big West rivals Pacfic and Cal Poly San Louis Obispo at noon.
