Final Stats
DAVIS, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara defeated UC Davis, 8-0, Saturday in the final game of a three-game series at La Rue Field. The Gauchos took advantage of six unearned runs and outhit the Aggies, 9-3, on their way to winning the weekend series, 2-1. Ashley Johnson, Roxanne Hannan and Christina Grimm each posted hits on the day for UC Davis (13-25).
UCSB (18-14) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Danielle Meyers delivered a two-out infield single to drive in Tiffany Wright from third. The score remained 1-0 into the fourth when the Gauchos scored two unearned runs. With two outs, Brittany Putich had a two-run double to drive home runners from second and third to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the fifth, two errors by the Aggies opened the door for an additional four unearned runs. Ericka Hansen had a one-out triple to drive in the Gauchos' fourth run. Later in the inning with two outs, Adrienne Anderson's two-run double upped the margin to 7-0. UC Santa Barbara added an eighth run in the seventh.
UCSB's Jennifer Davis scattered three singles during her complete-game shutout. She struck out seven and walked two. Lindsay Tognetti started for the Aggies with six of the seven runs she allowed ending up unearned. She gave up eight hits and struck out four in four and two-thirds innings. Stacey Benzing pitched two and a third innings in relief and allowed one run on one hit with four strikeouts.
UC Davis is next in action April 19 when it hosts Sacramento State in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at La Rue Field.
