Final Stats
STOCKTON, Calif. - UC Davis collected a total of 20 hits and Nikki Sheldon drove in six runs, but it was nine extra base hits that allowed Pacific to outlast the Aggies in a doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon in Stockton. The Tigers defeated the Aggies, 6-3, in game one before rallying for an 8-5 win in game two. Megan De La Hoya went 5-for-6 on the day for the Aggies. Sheldon, Julie Stauder and Roxanne Hannan each had three hits. In addition, Hannan and Sheldon each hit homers in the second game.
Pacific (19-13) needed one swing to get on the board in the first inning of game one. With two on and no outs, Jennifer Curtier blasted a three-run homer to left to make it 3-0. The score remained that way until the Aggies mounted a rally in the fifth.
With one out and runners at first and third, Sheldon had her first big hit of the day with a two-run double to right that drew UC Davis within 3-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, with one out, a triple by Gina Carbonatto and an RBI-double by Brittany Hyams were followed by another Curtier homer. The two-run shot gave Pacific a 6-2 lead heading to the sixth.
Belinda Paine, who stole three bases on the day, added an RBI-single in the sixth to account for the final run of the game.
UC Davis was outhit, 8-7 in the first game as Lindsay Tognetti suffered the complete-game loss.
In game two, Sheldon helped the Aggies break a scoreless tie with a one-out single that drove in De La Hoya to make it 1-0. Hannan made it 2-0 in the fourth when she led off with a solo homer to left. The round-tripper gave her a team-leading four on the year.
The Tigers came back in the bottom of the third with five runs. The rally started with a two-run homer by Kristen Allen that tied things at 2-2. Later in the inning, a bases loaded walk and a two-run single by Carbonatto gave the Tigers a 5-2 lead. The lead would not last long.
In the fifth, De La Hoya led off with her second double of the game. Stauder followed with a single to put runners at first and third. Sheldon drove everyone home with a three-run homer to left, her second of the season, to tie the game at 5-5.
Pacific regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with an unearned run and added two more in the sixth with one of those also being unearned on its way to the three-run victory.
UC Davis (9-22) outhit Pacific, 13-10, in the second game. The effort was a season-high in hits for the Aggies and the eighth time they have had 10 or more hits in a game.
The two teams will close out their three-game series Sunday with a single game scheduled to begin at noon.
