Final Stats
FULLERTON, Calif. - Oregon State scored nine runs in the third inning on its way to a 13-4 victory over UC Davis, Sunday, at the Cal State Fullerton Worth Invitational. Ashley Johnson and Jodie Valley each went 2-for-2 for the Aggies, and Johnson blasted her third homer of the year. Oregon State entered the game ranked no. 9 in both major national polls.
The game was scoreless into the second when the Beavers (17-2) scored four runs to break out on top 4-0. The Aggies (5-12) came right back in the top of the third with a pair of runs. The first scored on a groundout by Julie Stauder before Belinda Paine made it 4-2 when she came home on a passed ball.
In the bottom of the third, OSU broke it open with nine more runs. The scoring was capped off by a three-run homer by Brianne McGowan, making it 13-2.
In the fourth, Johnson led off with a home run to make it 13-3. The homer was her team-leading third of the season. Later in the inning, Valley added an RBI-double to account for the game's final run.
Oregon State outhit UC Davis, 10-5. The game was the last of four played by the Aggies at the three-day tournament.
UC Davis is next in action at the National Invitation Softball Tournament (NIST) in Sunnyvale, March 10-12. The Aggies will face Southern Illinois and Arizona State on March 10.
