Georgia Defeats UC Davis At Worth Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif. - Georgia's Jessica Doucette threw a no-hitter, and the Bulldogs defeated UC Davis, 9-0, Saturday morning as the Cal State Fullerton Worth Invitational entered its second day. Georgia entered the game ranked no. 12 in the NFCA/USA Today Top-25 and no. 11 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top-25 polls.

Georgia (15-5) scored seven runs in the first inning before closing the game out with two runs in the fifth. Doucette allowed a total of three base runners. Two reached on walks, and a third reached on a fielding error.

Two errors by UC Davis (4-11) in the first inning provided Georgia with three unearned runs among the seven that were scored. The big hit of the inning came with two outs and the Bulldogs leading 3-0 as Alison Horne singled to center field to drive in two runs and make it 5-0. Georgia added two more runs before taking a 7-0 lead into the second.

Meanwhile, Doucette retired the side in order in the first, third and fifth innings. In the second, Ashley Johnson led off and reached on an error. A sacrifice bunt and two groundouts later stranded Johnson at third. In the fourth inning, Julie Stauder led off with a walk but was caught stealing with one out. Johnson followed with a walk before Doucette used one of five strikeouts to get out of the inning.

UC Davis will next face Loyola (Chi.) Saturday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. The Ramblers will enter the game 1-4 after dropping a 6-0 decision to UC Santa Barbara Saturday morning.

The Aggies close out the tournament Sunday morning when they face no. 9/9 Oregon State at 11:45 a.m.
