REDLANDS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's water polo team held Harvard scoreless for three quarters as they took a 7-1 win over the Crimson in a neutral site game played at the University of Redlands on Monday afternoon. The match-up was the third of a four-game road swing for the Aggies which will be completed at Loyola Marymount on Wednesday.
The Aggies are currently riding a four-game winning streak which is the longest streak of consecutive wins for UC Davis this season. The Aggie season record currently stands at 13-8 while the Crimson record falls to 10-7.
The Aggies posted the lone goal of the first quarter to take a narrow 1-0 lead. The second quarter displayed a more effective UC Davis offensive effort as the Aggies had three unanswered goals and spread their lead to 4-0 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Aggies once again posted a single goal while holding Harvard scoreless for another seven minutes. The final quarter featured two more UC Davis goals and Harvard was able to slip one by the Aggie defense, ending the game with a score of 7-1.
Junior Katherine O'Rourke posted two goals in the win while five Aggies each posted a single point. Amber Korner had four saves in the first three quarters while allowing no goals. Lina Moore manned the goal in the fourth quater and collected one save.
"I felt really good about today's game. The past couple of games we have played good offensively and our defense was a little shaky. Harvard is a good team and I think we played better defense today. We kind of got re-grounded in the basics today and stepped up our defense," said head coach Jamey Wright.
UC Davis will take Tuesday off from competition before facing Western Water Polo Association rival Loyola Marymount on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Los Angeles.
