SACRAMENTO, Calif. - UC Davis was swept by Sacramento State in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader in Sacramento. The Hornets took game one, 5-1, before controlling game two, 14-4, in five innings. Sarah O'Neill and Megan De La Hoya each posted two hits on the day while Nikki Sheldon had two RBIs. The losses drop UC Davis to 4-9 on the year while Sacramento State improves to 6-9.
In the first game, Jamie Schloredt gave the Hornets all of the scoring they would need when she blasted a three-run homer to left field with one out in the first inning to put Sacramento State on top, 3-0.
In the top of the second, O'Neill doubled to drive in Ashley Johnson with what turned out to be the Aggies' only run. The Hornets tacked on a run in both the third and fourth innings to account for the final scoring. In all, UC Davis was outhit 9-3, and both teams combined for seven errors.
It was the Aggies who got off to the fast start in game two. De La Hoya led of the game with a single and came around to score with one out on a triple by Sheldon. Johnson followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in Sheldon to put UC Davis up 2-0.
Sacramento State countered with one run in the first, two more in the second and 10 runs in the third. That broke the game open with the Hornets leading 13-2 heading into the fourth.
The Hornets led 14-1 before UC Davis scored two runs in the fifth. De La Hoya provided an RBI-single with one out before Sheldon's sacrifice fly completed the Aggie scoring. Sacramento State outhit UC Davis, 11-7, in game two.
UC Davis is next in action March 3 when it begins play at the Worth Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. The Aggies face no. 2 Tennessee and Texas Tech on the first day of action.
