UPCOMING OPPONENTS
The Aggies will travel to UC Santa Barbara this week for a full weekend of play. UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara will play on Friday afternoon before both teams compete in the UCSB Gaucho Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
UC Davis is scheduled to play No. 2 ranked UCLA in the first game of the tournament. The Bruins, who are the defending national champions, are 8-1 on the season so far with their lone loss coming against the No. 1 USC. UCLA currently boasts a roster with over ten athletes that are members of either the USA Youth National Team, Junior National Team or National Team. The last time the Aggies faced the Bruins was last season at the Stanford Invitational where UCLA took away a 13-3 victory. Depending on the outcome of Saturday morning's game, the Aggies will either face Long Beach State or San Jose State Saturday afternoon.
HEAD COACH Jamey Wright
Against UC Santa Barbara: "We didn't come out strong in the first quarter and we gave up some early goals. We chipped our way back, but we went one for eight on six-on-fives. I think how we do against them this week depends on how we execute the six-on-fives."
On UCLA: "With UCLA, you know what they have. We want to shorten the game and work on protecting the ball. If there is not a good scoring opportunity we will dump the ball. The basic blueprint is to force them to score in the front court. Our defense and front court defense is good so we want to make them score in six-on-six situations."
"We just have have to approach UCLA like we did the Cal game. If we withstand the initial barrage and make them play six-on-six, they aren't invinceble, but we have to play perfect."
