San Diego, Calif. - The UC Davis men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated UC San Diego in a dual meet on Sunday afternoon at Canyonview Pool. The women earned a 174-126 victory over the Tritons while the men won by a score of 157-143.

The win gives the women's team an 8-4 record in dual meets while the men jump to 6-3.

Overall, the Aggies combined to win 20 of the 32 events and a total of 11 different swimmers earned victories in the individual events. For the men, Scott Weltz finished first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.76), 100 fly (50.84) and 200 backstroke (1:55.74). Russell Taylor also captured multiple victories as he finished first in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.73) and the 400 individual medley (4:19.19).

The women were led by three first place finishes apiece by Shannon Rachford and Heidi Kucera. Rachford placed in the top spot in the 1,000 free (10:34.01), 200 butterfly (2:06.99) and 500 free (5:07.22) while Kucera had top times of 1:54.15 in the 200 free, 2:21.75 in the 200 breast and 4:31.79 in the 400 IM.

Krysta Chaldekas was also a double winner as she finished first on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 220.20 and 250.65, respectively. Ashley Haney finished a season-best second on the high board (210.75) while Hannah Ures was third on the low board (212.78).

The Aggies also enjoyed 1-2 finishes in the women's 100 free, women's 200 breast, men's 500 free and the men's 400 IM.

Mike Hui was the top Aggie diver on the men's side as he placed 2nd on the 3M board (236.18) and third on the 1M board (225.30).

The women also had great showings in the two relay events as the team of Ashley Cayford, Melanie Covert, Jennifer Ginsberg and Jill Olson gained first in the 400 free (3:32.36) while Ginsberg and Cayford teamed with Hannah Watanabe and Jill Olson to take second in the 200 medley (1:47.55).

The men earned second place in both relay events. Nik Kemp, Patrick Jacobson, Russ Underwood and Evan Kraus finished the 400 free in 3:08.52. Underwood, Daniel Donnelly, Kyle Payne and Matt Crawford came in at 1:34.23 in the 200 medley.

The women's team takes the remainder of the month off to train before traveling to Akron, Ohio on Dec. 1. The men return to action next week at the Speedo Cup in Long Beach.
