Oct. 7, 2006

Box Score

NORTHRIDGE - Sophomore Darla Donaldson posted a match-high 16 kills and hit .625 to lead Cal State Northridge to a 30-23, 30-23, 30-28 sweep of UC Davis in non-conference women's volleyball action at The Matadome Saturday evening. The Matador sophomore also contributed on five of her team's 10 blocks in the win.

The Aggies drop to 2-16 for the season. CSUN improves to 10-5 overall, having more than doubled its 2005 win total.

Freshman Britt Erickson led UC Davis offensively with 13 kills, while senior Nicole Read added 10. Sophomore Chantal Paschetta added nine kills and three aces. Freshman libero Avreeta Singh led the Aggie floor defense with 16 digs.

Paschetta's first ace of the match gave UC Davis a 15-12 lead midway in the first game, but senior opposite Hilary Brinkman's offense helped the Matadors fight back to 18-18. A Paschetta kill regained the Aggie lead briefly, then sophomore Val Kepler and freshman Siara Grayson scored back-to-back kills to put CSUN back up by a 20-19 edge. Donaldson and setter Angela Hupp teamed up for a block to push their lead up to 23-20, then the Matadors pulled away to a win in the first game.

Donaldson scored seven kills in Game 2, in which Northridge took the lead for good in the early stages. Kepler had two block assists in a span of three points to put the Matadors ahead by a 12-7 margin, and the Aggies never approached to closer than four points for the remainder of the frame.

Erickson racked up seven kills in Game 3, including one that gave UC Davis a 19-18, its first lead since early in Game 2. Erickson's seventh kill of the game and 16th of the match boosted the Aggie advantage to 23-21, but the Matadors countered with a 6-0 run to take a 27-23 lead. Paschetta put down a side-out kill at 28-25, then served up three straight points to allow UC Davis to tie Game 3 at 28-28. Donaldson then hit back-to-back kills to end the match and complete the Matador sweep.

UC Davis returns to Southern California to face future Big West Conference foes Long Beach State and UC Irvine on October 13 and 14.
