DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's and women's swimming and diving teams each captured decisive wins over UC San Diego in a home dual held Saturday afternoon at Schaal Aquatics Center. Despite windy and wet weather, a large crowd showed up to see the Aggie women defeat the Tritons 188-112 and the Aggie men capture a 178-120 victory over UC San Diego.

Yuka Kobayashi, Renee Dyer and Scott Weltz were all triple event winners for the Aggies on Saturday. Dyer captured first place in the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle events posting a season best mark in the 200-yard event with a time of 1:52.86. Dyer also helped the Aggie 'A' 400 free relay consisting of Jennifer Ginsberg, Melanie Covert and Jill Olson to a first place finish with a time of 3:31.47.

Kobayashi took the top finish in the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes as well as the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.75. Kobayashi also helped the UC Davis 'A' 400-yard medley relay of Ashley Cayford, Hannah Watanabe and Olson to a top finish with a mark of 3:55.16.

In women's diving, Krysta Chaldekas took first place on both the one and three-meter boards. Chaldekas racked up 216.23 points on the one-meter and was able to top that on the three-meter scoring 235.95 in the event.

Scott Weltz led the Aggie men grabbing top finishes in the 500-yard freestyle, 400 individual medley and the 1000-yard freestyle where he posted a team best time of 9:38.62 in his first attempt at the event this season. Weltz was also the lead-off leg in the Aggie 'A' 400 medley relay consisting of Kyle Payne, Kaleb Wallen and Patrick Jacobson that took first place coming in at 3:30.67.

Evan Kraus also picked a couple of top finishes for the Ags in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events. Kraus posted a season best 1:42.16 in the 200-yard event and finished the 100 in 47.17.

Other Aggie highlights include Russell Taylor's second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a season best mark of 58.36, his first sub-minute time in the event this season. Patrick Jacobson also captured his third consecutive first place finish this season in the 50 freestyle with a mark of 21.24.

In men's diving, UC San Diego's Andrew Skewes took first on both the one and three-meter boards. Aggie Keith Abbott took second on the one-meter with a score of 205.35 while Yoshi Akaha took second on the three-meter with 200.25 points.

The UC Davis men now hold a dual record of 5-2, while the women's dual record has been lifted to 7-6. The Aggies will compete again on Friday, Jan. 20 against Big West foe UC Santa Barbara at Schaal Aquatics Center at 1:30 p.m.
