IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Davis men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a dual meet with the UC Irvine Anteaters Sunday afternoon at UC Irvine's Anteater Aquatic Complex. The Aggie men defeated UC Irvine 133-109 while the Aggie women fell to the Anteaters 126.5-116.5.

The Aggie men won six events as they defeated the Anteaters highlighted by diver Brad Kern's wins on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. UC Davis' Keith Abbott took second behind Kern on each board.

In the 1000-yard freestyle the Aggie men took the top three finishes with Alex Arbios leading the way with a mark of 9:45.67 which was followed by Kyle Leto's and Lars Rockholm's season best marks of 9:47.55 and 9:53.73 respectively.

Nik Kemp followed with the top finish in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:41.51. Patrick Jacobson then took first in the 50 freestyle posting the best Aggie mark this season with a time of 21.04.

The men rounded out their first place finishes with the top finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:05.76 by the UC Davis 'A' relay squad of Kemp, Evan Kraus, Jacobson and Scott Weltz.

Other highlights included a second place finish by Kraus in the 100 freestyle with a season best time of 46.84 and a second place by Toki Burke in the 200 butterfly with a season best of 1:55.95.

Weltz took second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:35.53, a season best by 21.19 seconds and the best time posted by an Aggie this season. Kyle Payne also posted a season best as well as 2005 team best in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:09.75.

The Aggie women started the meet with a second place finish and a season best time of 3:51.21 in the 400 Medley Relay by the UC Davis 'A' relay team of Yuka Kobayashi, Ashley Cayford, Hannah Watanabe and Jill Olson.

Olson followed with a top finish in the 200 freestyle with a season best time of 1:55.52 and Kobayashi also had a first place finish as well as a season best time in the 200 backstroke with a mark of 2:05.05, which is also the best time by an Aggie this season.

Krysta Chaldekas led the competition on the 3-meter board finishing first with 260.48 points. Watanabe took first in the 500 freestyle and Cayford took first in the 200 breaststroke with a team and season best time of 2:21.48 to round out the top Aggie individual finishes for the day. The UC Davis 'B' relay team of Jennifer Ginsberg, Emily Medved, Abbey Cornell and Renee Dyer ended the meet with a first in the 400 freestyle relay with a mark of 3:34.60, but it wasn't enough to capture the dual win.

The Aggie men's season record is lifted to 4-2 in duals while the women's season record is now 6-6. Both teams will be back in action on Jan. 7 when they host the Aggie Invitational at UC Davis' Schaal Aquatic Center.
