SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. Patrick Parsel finished 21st and Kim Conley placed 21st on Sunday as UC Davis faced tough open competition at the Pacific Association/USATF West Region Championships at Golden Gate Park.

The race served as postseason competition for the Aggies who are in the third year of a four-year reclassification to NCAA Division I status. UC Davis is ineligible for NCAA Championship competition during the transition. Aggie runners competed unattached so UC Davis did not receive team scores in either the men's or women's races.

The races featured some of the top open and club runners in the western United States.

Parsel led the Aggies during the men's six-mile race, covering the courwse in 32 minutes, 15 seconds and leading five UC Davis runners in the top 40 which finished within 65 seconds of each other. Chris Ferren-Cirino was 25th in 32:36, Chris Pecot finished 36th in 33:11, Chris Fuller crossed in 37th in 33:18 and K.C. Cody was 38th in 33:20.

Geoff Casazza (44th) and Mario Mendoza (52nd) rounded out the Aggies' top seven. Paolo Carvalho won the race in 30:32.

Conley and teammate Lorin Scott finished within one second of each during the women's four-mile race with Conly crossing in 25:01 and Scott just behind in 25:02. Five UC Davis runners crossed among the top 50 finishers, including Amy Robinson (25:39) in 41st, Jenny Wilson (25:40) in 42nd and Kaitlin Gregg (26:00) in 48th.

Michelle Solone (56th) and Mandy Beatty (64th) also placed in UC Davis' top seven. The race was won by Erika Aklufi, who finished in 22:49.
