Box Score

DAVIS, Calif. - Freshman outside hitter Ali Daley had 11 kills and hit .733 to lead Long Beach State's murderer's row of hitters in a 30-18, 30-21, 30-20 sweep over UC Davis in non-conference women's collegiate volleyball action at the Pavilion Saturday.

The Aggies drop to 3-19 for the year. The 24th-ranked 49ers improve to 16-4 overall.

The Beach hit .388 as a team, getting double-figured kills from four of their players. Sophomore middle Alexis Crimes led her team with 12 kills, while junior opposite Robin Miramontes added 11 and senior middle blocker Erika Chidester chipped in 10. Crimes also contributed on five of the 9.5 49er team blocks.

For UC Davis, junior outside hitter Nicole Read had nine kills while junior middle Jenny Pierce added eight kills and a pair of service aces.

Long Beach State pulled away from relatively close battles to capture each of the first two games. Miramontes picked up two of her three total aces during a 10-3 run that helped the Beach turn a 16-13 battle into a comfortable 26-16 advantage in the first game.

Miramontes had back-to-back kills as part of a Game 2 run that pushed the 49ers out to a 18-11 lead. However, the Aggies battled back to close the deficit to four poitnts at 20-16 and later, 21-17. Redshirt freshman Cleo Schiff came off the bench to help stabilize the UC Davis passing game during that comeback effort. LBSU caught fire down the stretch as Miramontes put down a kill for a 27-21 49er lead, then served up the final three points en route to a 2-0 games lead.

Game 3 saw Long Beach run out to a dominating 18-6 lead, then UC Davis rallied for the next stretch, cutting that edge to as close as 23-16. Crimes and Quincy Verdin posted back-to-back kills to set up a 29-18 match-point situation, then Verdin tooled the Aggie block for the game-winner two points later.

Daley had seven kills on nine swings in the third game alone, while Verdine hit 6-1-7 in her one-game stint. The Aggies' Read also had her best output in Game 3, hitting four kills and posting a spectacular solo block against the taller (6-foot-3) Crimes.

The Aggies return to the road for matches at UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton on October 28 and 29.
