After serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for both the indoor and beach volleyball programs at Nicholls State for the last two years, Summer Morgan has been hired as an assistant coach with the UC Davis women’s volleyball program beginning with the fall 2021 season.
“We are excited to welcome Summer to the Aggie volleyball staff,” Head Coach Dan Conners said. “I believe that her personality and her commitment to student-athlete development will be a great fit for our team. I expect that Morgan will hit the ground running with our team and with recruiting to start building connections with those groups.
“Having played in both the SEC and the American Athletic Conference and getting her coaching experience in the Sun Belt and Southland Conferences, Summer will be well prepared for the challenges of Big West volleyball.”
Morgan joins the Aggies after coaching the middle blockers and middle hitters with the Colonels since joining their staff in May of 2019, helping Nicholls State to an eight-win improvement in the win column during her first season — including an unbeaten 6-0 start that year, which was the best in program history.
Prior to her stay in Thibodaux, Louisiana, Morgan spent two years with Texas State as a graduate assistant, acting as the program’s director of operations while simultaneously working on her master’s degree. During her time with the Bobcats, the team posted back-to-back regular season Sun Belt titles, a 2018 Sun Belt Tournament title, and an NCAA Tournament second-round appearance to cap off a 27-7 season. The year prior, she helped Texas State to an appearance in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, finishing with a 25-10 overall record.
As a student-athlete, Morgan spent three seasons in her home state at the University of Arkansas from 2012-14, helping lead the Razorbacks to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012, before transferring to the University of Memphis to finish her career in 2015-16, finishing with 465 kills, 255 blocks, 68 digs, and 14 aces, over 65 matches with the Tigers.
A native of Springdale, Arkansas, Morgan graduated from Memphis with a degree in broadcast journalism in 2016, and completed her master’s in interdisciplinary studies from Texas State in 2019.
