Josh Thompson

  • Title
    Offensive Quality Control
Formerly an assistant coach at Azusa Pacific and ELAC, Josh Thompson joined the UC Davis football staff in the summer of 2021 as an offensive quality control assistant.

The University of La Verne graduate most recently served as a teacher, associate head coach and defensive coordinator at La Salle College Prep, during which he also held the posts of assistant strength and condition coach and head freshman basketball coach. Prior to that was his season at APU, where he coached tight ends and H backs under head coach Victor Santa Cruz. In that 2018 season, the Cougars posted an 8-4 overall record with a 7-1 conference mark.

Thompson previously enjoyed a two-year stint as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator at East Los Angeles College, helping the program to a 9-2 record, the Metro Conference crown and a Patriotic Bowl victory against College of the Desert in 2017.

Thompson played his college ball as a receiver for Victory Valley College (2013-14) and Gardner Webb (2012-13), which in turn followed a prep career that saw him snare all-state and first-team all-league honors at Laverne Lutheran High School. He returned to his hometown to earn his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from La Verne in 2018.
