Evan Hicks joined the Aggie coaching staff in 2018 as the defensive quality control coach, then became a full-time assistant following the 2019 season and he oversees the UC Davis safeties. 2025 will be his eighth season as an Aggie assistant.
During the 2024 season, under Hicks, safety Rex Connors was nearly unstoppable earning multiple All-American honors while setting a program record with 74 solo tackles during the season.
Originally from Atascadero, Hicks played safety for nearby Sacramento City College, but suffered a career-ending injury in the final game of the season. This unfortunate incident helped launch his coaching career: he returned home to undergo surgery and continue his college education, but also returned to his alma mater as a coach.
Hicks served as junior varsity defensive coordinator for four years at Atascadero, then became the defensive backs coach at Moorpark College. In 2017, he was elevated to defensive coordinator. A year later, he joined his younger brother, Ethan, who was finishing his senior year as the UC Davis fullback.
Hicks earned his bachelor's degree in liberal studies from Brandman, then added a master's in exercise science with an emphasis in sports psychology from California University of Pennsylvania.
