2021: Started all 16 matches as a defender for the Aggies… Helped spearhead a defense that ranked No. 40 in the NCAA in scoring defense (11.38) and No. 11 in scoring margin (5.44)… Scored her first collegiate goal in the home finale against California as part of a 14-4 victory… Ranked sixth in the MPSF with 30 ground balls and caused eight turnovers on the year… Scooped up a season-high four ground balls in four different matches: Fresno State (Feb. 14), San Diego State (April 11), Oregon (April 17), and in the MPSF Championship game against the Bulldogs on May 1… Had at least one ground ball in all but three matches… The 30 ground balls marked the third time in her career that she finished with at least that number (34 in 2019 and 32 in 2017).
2020: Started all six matches for the Aggies during the shortened 2020 season, playing in all 360 minutes… Finished tied for third on the team with nine ground balls and tied for the team lead with seven caused turnovers, the latter ranked tied for fifth in the MPSF… Picked up three ground balls in games against California (2/14) and Georgetown (3/9), with a pair of caused turnovers against Oregon (3/1) and the Hoyas.
2019: Started all 17 contests… Finished with 34 ground balls — including a season-high four each against Stanford (Feb. 24) and Bucknell (March 10) — and 13 caused turnovers.
2018: Started every game on low defense for second straight year, bringing run of consecutive starts to 31... Posted 13 ground balls and 8 caused turnovers... Recorded 4 GBs with 2 steals vs. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (2/18)... Matched that 2-GB total the next weekend vs Harvard (2/25) then again in MPSF championship at San Diego State (4/29).
2017: Lone freshman to start all 17 games... Led low defenders with 32 ground balls while adding 7 draw controls and 9 caused turnovers... Picked up 5 GBs vs. Columbia (3/13), 4 vs. Colorado (2/26)... Also had season-high 2 steals in conference loss to Buffs.
DAVIS HS '16: All-Delta League honoree in both lacrosse and basketball... Key stats as a defender: 32 ground balls, 38 draw controls, 18 caused turnovers as a senior; 42 GBs, 15 DCs, 24 CTs as a junior; 32 GBs and 22 CTs as a sophomore... Set school record for assists in basketball, posting seasons of 101, 141, 120 and 128 from her freshman through senior years, respectively.
PERSONAL: Born in Davis, Calif.... Majoring in neurobiology, physiology & behavior... Parents are Jim & Alice Belenis... Both Jim and grandfather George played football at UC Davis... Three generations of the Belenis family (James, George and Jim) also owned the popular Mr. B’s restaurant from 1922 to its closing in 1998... Name is pronounced “beh-LEE-niss.”
