DAVIS, Calif. — Ivan Savkin and Aiden Mueller wrapped up impressive performances at the season-opening UC Davis Aggie Invitational at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on Sunday by winning singles and doubles crowns. The pair started Sunday's third and final day of the event by pairing up to defeat Pacific's Adi Dagan and Niv Zuckerman (8-3) in the finals of the blue flight doubles competition. In singles, Savkin defeated Pacific's Vraj Patel in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) to win the blue flight, while Mueller was awarded with the white flight title when his opponent Gregorie Valente of Nevada withdrew due to injury.
Cyrus Ahmad also competed in and won both singles and doubles consolation matches on Sunday, knocking off Santa Clara's Alex Bergomi in singles (3-6, 7-5, 10-8) and teaming with Ibrahim Snoussi of Nevada to defeat Alex Simone and Iacappo Antonelli of Sacramento State in a double match (8-6).
"Ivan Savkin had a tremendous start to our fall season by winning both singles and doubles in our top flight of play," UC Davis head coach Eric Steidlmayer said. "Throughout the tournament, he showed poise, maturity and great play, none more evident than in both finals today. It was great to see!"
"The Aggie Invite has always been a great start to the year for UC Davis, and none more than this weekend with the results we had," Steidlmayer added. "Pretty fun!"
UC Davis will next be in action Oct. 3-4 at the NorCal Shootout hosted by Saint Mary's in Moraga.
