STANFORD, Calif. — After falling to No. 15 LMU in the morning, UC Davis men's water polo bounced back with their first win of the Overnght Invitational against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 13-10, on Saturday, Sept. 19.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)

• Following a Lions exclusion, UC Davis struck first 90 seconds in off a powerplay goal from Oleg Shatskikh.
• LMU quickly struck back to tie things up, but Thomas Kiesling found the back of the net a minute later.
• Back and forth both clubs went through the rest of the first quarter. With two minutes remaining, LMU took their first lead at 3-2. Thomas Marr had the response with 10 seconds remaining, but a last second goal gave the Lions a 4-3 advantage after one.
• A penalty shot to open the second was converted by Max Prokhin to even the score at four.
• A 2-0 run from the Lions gave them the advantage once again, but with 90 seconds left in the half, Gabe Bensen cashed in his first to put his team within one.
• Coming back into the pool, Lucas Ruano tied the game once again.
• LMU would score the next two heading into the fourth. Oriol Viñas would get on the board with three minutes remaining in regulation to put his team within striking distance.
• A 3-0 run put the Lions firmly in the lead. Shatskikh cashed in his second with moments remaining, but Davis would see LMU win 11-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)

• After seeing the Stags get the first goal of the game, Timothy Kerr went to the back of the net for his first of the day.
• Both teams continued exchanging blows into the end of the first, with Andonis Petroutsas and Colton Fine responding to goals by CMS to leave the game tied at three after one.
• The Stags momentum quickened in the second quarter, going on a 3-0 run through the first four minutes.
• Davis bounced back with four straight goals, with two from Shatskikh and one from Viñas and Marr to take their first lead.
• However, the Stags bounced back in the final 30 seconds of the half, cashing in on a penalty to enter halftime tied at seven.
• Kiesling and Mateo Ruano led the offensive charge in the third quarter, responding to CMS goals as the tight contest remained tied at nine heading into the final eight minutes.
• 30 seconds into the fourth, Kiesling secured his second to retake the lead.
• Kerr and Kiesling pushed the lead to three moments later, with Kiesling getting his third for a hat trick.
• The Stags would score once more, but Kerr would also get a hat trick to put the finishing touches on a 13-10 victory.

UP NEXT: The Aggies finish up play at the Invitational in the 13th place game on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 11 am PT. Depending on the result of the Santa Clara Cal Baptist matchup, the Aggies will face off against either the Broncos or Lancers.
