Cosi Karleski scored her first career goal to highlight a second-half battle for UC Davis field hockey, as the Aggies fell 3-1 to UMass Lowell at home on Sunday.
PITCH SIDE
- Cosi Karleski recorded her first career goal off a fourth-quarter assist from Ella Franken.
- Addy Collingwood anchored the backline with six total saves to keep the Aggies within striking distance throughout the afternoon.
- Karleski, Katie Kim, and Jamie Dempsey each registered shots on cage to power the UC Davis attack.
- The Aggie defense fended off four of UMass Lowell's five penalty corner opportunities across 60 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both defenses set a physical tone early, with Collingwood turning away two first-quarter attempts to keep the match scoreless heading into the break.
- UMass Lowell broke the deadlock late in the third quarter when Audrey Carter finished a feed from Frédérique van den Dungen to take a 1-0 lead.
- The River Hawks doubled their advantage early in the fourth quarter as Rena Pistilli converted off a penalty corner setup from van den Dungen.
- UC Davis responded immediately, as Franken set up Karleski to bury her milestone first goal and slice the deficit to 2-1.
- UMass Lowell answered right back moments later, with Alice Van Hemelen scoring a goal to put the game out of reach at 3-1.
UP NEXT: The Aggies remain at home next weekend to host Columbia on Friday, Sept. 4, and Bellarmine on Sunday, Sept. 6, with both contests scheduled for a 12 p.m. PT start.
