PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A hat trick from Austin Quick led UC Davis men's water polo to a successful first day of the Bruno Classic, winning 14-8 over Wagner on Friday, Aug. 28.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • One minute into the first, Quick gave the Aggies their first goal of the season to spark a 3-0 run.
  • Thomas Kiesling and newcomer Andonis Petroutsas added onto the tally before Wagner got on the board in the final minute of the period, putting Davis up 3-1 after eight.
  • Quick opened up quarter number two fast, putting one in the back of the net only 18 seconds in.
  • Oriol Viñas, fresh off international competition with Spain, banked two in a row, one on a powerplay, to put his team ahead 6-1 halfway through the frame.
  • The Seahawks would add a pair two minutes later, but Oleg Shatskikh and Gabe Bensen both got on the board to give the Aggies an 8-3 lead at halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, Wagner began to gather momentum by outscoring Davis 3-1 in the third quarter.
  • Colton Fine would be the lone Aggie to score in the period, putting them up 9-6 entering the final frame.
  • After Petroutsas cashed in his second a minute into the fourth, Wagner struck back with a powerplay score, keeping the Aggie lead a slim three goals.
  • With four minutes remaining, backed by the goalkeeping of Baxter Chelsom, Davis cashed on a 4-1 run, powered by goals from Thomas Marr, Quick, and Shatskikh.
  • As the clock showed only one second remaining, Max Prokhin put the exclamation mark on the contest with his first goal of the season, solidifying a 14-8 win for UC Davis.
